Maldives

Trade a crowded calendar for open water and unhurried days.

Space to switch off

Find your rhythm in Maldives.

The Maldives suits a holiday built around fewer decisions: a place to swim, a comfortable chair in the shade and meals that deserve your full attention. Choose an island for the experience you want, whether that means a sociable family resort, a quiet beach villa or an overwater stay with a generous deck. Give the lagoon room in your schedule, then add a guided marine outing or a taste of Maldivian cooking. The luxury here is the freedom to repeat a good day without feeling you have missed something.

WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL

Good reasons to linger.

01

A lagoon morning

Leave the first part of the day open for the beach. Choose swimming or a shaded lounger according to conditions, energy and the island’s guidance.

02

Explore the water with a guide

Consider a guided snorkeling or boat outing with an established operator. Discuss swimming ability and equipment, and allow marine life to remain undisturbed.

03

Taste the islands

Look for an opportunity to try Maldivian food, from a local breakfast to a thoughtfully prepared fish dish, and ask about ingredients and dietary needs.

04

Make room for doing less

Plan one afternoon without an excursion. Read, book an optional spa appointment or enjoy the view, then sit down for a leisurely sunset dinner.

CHOOSE YOUR SETTING

Where to make your base.

Different places, different rhythms. Compare the exact location, access and room details when you choose your stay.

01

North Malé Atoll

Explore island stays in this atoll when a practical arrival plan matters. Confirm each property’s exact boat or flight arrangement rather than judging by the atoll name.

02

South Malé Atoll

Compare beach and overwater stays for your preferred balance of social spaces, dining and privacy. Transfer arrangements remain specific to the island.

03

Baa Atoll

Consider this atoll for a holiday centered on island surroundings and marine experiences. Build the required onward connection into your full journey.

LEAVE A LITTLE SPACE

Your days, at your pace.

Ideas to weave into your trip, with plenty of room between them. These are suggested experiences, not a booked itinerary.

Suggested start · Arrive and settle

Complete the island transfer, get familiar with the beach and dining options, and keep the first evening easy. Avoid making an arrival day excursion essential.

Suggested middle · Water and island time

Balance a separately booked marine experience with open mornings, a local food experience and an afternoon that belongs entirely to you.

Suggested finish · One more slow morning

Enjoy your favorite stretch of beach and confirm the return transfer with the property. Leave a generous connection window before the international flight.

A THOUGHTFUL DEPARTURE

A few things to know.

Getting there

International flights arrive at Velana International Airport near Malé. Your island determines the next connection: speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight with an onward boat. Ask the accommodation to confirm the complete transfer, connection window, luggage allowance and total cost before booking.

Thinking about timing

The drier period is generally around December to April; the southwest monsoon brings a wetter pattern around May to November. Conditions vary between atolls and from day to day. Choose dates around your preferred activities, and confirm local sea conditions rather than assuming every lagoon outing will operate.

Before you confirm

  • Ask whether the international flight, island transfer and any necessary overnight connection are included in the final package.
  • Compare the exact meal plan, restaurant restrictions, drinks and activity charges; an island stay is not automatically all inclusive.
  • Check the room category, beach access and child policies. An overwater room and a beach villa can create very different holidays.

Weather, schedules, trail access and provider policies can change. Check current details with the relevant official source and your chosen travel provider.
